The new issue of Quilting Arts (June/July 2012) has an article (Dye Your Own Ice Parfait, Carol Ludington) on dyeing with ice.  I did not have powered Procion MX dyes, and being Ms. Impatience, decided to try using ice with liquid dyes.

While the dyes looked beautiful in the jar with the fabric fat quarters and ice, the fabric in the bottom began to be soaked in a soupy mess as the ice began to melt and the liquid dye ran down into the bottom.

The fabrics towards the top of the jar were interesting, while the ones further down were more solid looking. Guess I will have to order some powered dyes and try again.
